Dr. Richard Browning of Tennessee State University will speak Saturday July 22, 2017, at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Browning grew up raising and showing Red Brahman cattle in southeast Texas. He earned his PhD from Texas A&M University in animal reproduction and genetics. He has been evaluating meat goat breeds in Tennessee since 2002. He will discuss the results of his research on how the choice of doe breed affects herd performance. Lunch will be provided. There is no charge for this program, however registration is required. The deadline for registration is July 14, 2017.

The 2016 Small Farm Symposium will be held November 16, 2016 at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville, Va. The even will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
SVMGA member Denise Hudson of Hudson Heritage Farms will be giving a talk in the morning on “Value Added.”
Halifax County extension agent Ashley M. Nauta will also be giving a morning talk on “Marketing.”

Dr. Susan Schoenian, renowned Sheep and Goat Specialist for the University of Maryland will speak on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Halifax County Agricultural Center from 10:00 to 3:00. Dr. Schoenian’s topics will include: Care of orphaned kids & lambs, feed cost management, and parasite control. Lunch will be provided. There is no charge for this program.
