Halifax County Extension and Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association have partnered to host an educational event on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center in Scottsburg. This field day is for SVMGA members and any other interested producers.
Dr. Jeanette Moore, Small Ruminant Specialist from N.C. State, is the first speaker for this program. In her role, Dr. Moore provides needs-based educational workshops and applied research for small ruminant producers locally and regionally. An Extension Research Associate also with N.C. State, Dr. Carrie Pickworth will distribute research findings and recommendations to producers in attendance. Her work across North Carolina is involved intensely with goat operations and marketing opportunities.
Each speaker will discuss different aspects of nutrition and health strategies for meat goat operations. Feed is one of the highest costs in a livestock operation, and making that a priority is key from an enterprise management point for producers. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and concerns as time will be allotted for discussion with the speakers.
Lunch will be provided, and there is no cost to attend. Registration is required, please contact Rebekah Slabach, Halifax ANR Extension Agent, at (434) 476-2147 or email@example.com.
