Virginia State University Small Ruminant Program invites you to join us for our annual Small Ruminant Field Day.

Theme: “Small Ruminant Slaughter, Meat and Dairy Processing and State Regulations”

7:00 – 8:00 am                    Registration and Continental Breakfast (Pavilion)

8:00 – 8:15 am                    Welcome (Pavilion)

8:30 – 9:15 am                    On-farm Slaughter and Processing Regulations –  VDACS (Pavilion)

9:15 – 10:00 am                  Dairy processing and sale regulations – VDACS (Pavilion)

10:00 – 10:30 am                BREAK (Pavilion)

10:30 – 12:00 pm                Concurrent Session A – How to Make Quick and Delicious Goat Cheese (Pavillion)

Concurrent Session B – How to Slaughter Sheep and Goats on Your Farm (Randolph Farm)

12:00 – 1:30 pm                 LUNCH

1:30 – 3:00 pm                  Visit displays and demonstrations: Body Condition Scoring and Market Readiness – Susan Schoenian; FAMACHA©, hoof trimming drenching and vaccinations (VSU Extension Specialist Dr. Dahlia O’Brien and Susan Schoenian, Principal Agent & Extension Specialist, Sheep & Goat Western Maryland Research and Education Center)
