SVMGA Meeting Minutes
August 27, 2015

The business meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM by President Fontaine Talley.

Secretaries Report: The minutes from the July meeting were accepted as posted on the website.

Treasurer’s Report: The Secretary read the report emailed by Treasurer James Barbour. The
ending balance was increased by membership dues and proceeds from the last consignment sale.

Marketing Committee Report: Debbie Duffer reported that sale 126 animals were sold. The next
consignment sale will be held September 10 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and the cut-off for
registration is September 3rd. There will be an additional opportunity to sell breeding stock to the
Department of Corrections on September 18th or 19th, The deadline for that registration is August
30.  Ms. Duffer will poll the membership at the next meeting about interest in an additional sale
before the end of the year.

Old Business: Goat and Lamb Show, Halifax County Fair, Wednesday, October 7, 2015: A
former Ag Agent from North Carolina has agreed to be the judge. There are twelve participants.
The fairgrounds management has assigned a large area for our display of goats.

New Business: It is confirmed that the October meeting will be about Tractor Maintenance and
Repair at the Ag Center, and Ashley Nauta has arranged for Spaulding Equipment to deliver a
tractor for display.

A motion to close the meeting at 7:25 PM was approved.

SVMGA Business Meeting Reminder

Remember, the monthly SVMGA business meeting is this Thursday, September 24, 2015, 7:00 p.m. at the Halifax County Ag Center.  We will be discussing the final preparation for the Goat and Lamb show.


Upcoming Sheep Field Day

September 17, 2015

Catalog for upcoming Sheep Field Day and Ram Sale at the Southwest AREC on Sat, Sept 26.  This is our fourth year for this  forage-based hair sheep ram performance test which includes evaluation of parasite resistance. The educational program will center around this activity, and the top end of the rams will be sold. Additional information on our VT Sheep Extension site

There were a total of 255 animals sold for total revenue to consignees of $31,089.50.
The prices were as follows:
