SVMGA Meeting Minutes
May 28, 2015
The business meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Fontaine Talley.
Secretaries Report: The President dispensed with reading the minutes, since none were taken at the last meeting at the Troyers’ farm.
Treasurer’s Report: The President read the report emailed by Treasurer James Barbour.
Marketing Committee Report: Debbie Duffer reported that at the May 16 sale 102 Animals were sold. The next consignment sale will be held in mid-September, but a date has yet to be confirmed. It was noted that the prices proffered at the Junior Livestock Show were considered low, and our Consignment buyer was not contacted.
Old Business: There was discussion of building a holding pen on the other side of the Ag Center. There are panels available for construction, however, it was agreed that the current system is working.
New Business: Goat and Lamb Show, Halifax County Fair, October 7, 2015
The president has done background work on this event. The Fair is supporting the show in that participating children will be given arm-bands for free admittance to the rides. Mr. Talley has found a printer who will produce the show programs for $2.00/booklet. Advertisements will be sold: Full page, $100; Half page, $50.00, Quarter page $25.00. Line advertisements will be available for $5.00.
There will be a judge, for whom we will pay. This program is being supported by SVMGA and 4-H.
Ms. Sonya Furgurson, the Halifax County 4-H representative, was present and agreed with Mr. Tally that the children will have a first sign-up date of July 7, 2015, at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing center at 7:00 p.m. Halifax County Children, and those related to our membership have priority, the registration will then be opened to surrounding counties.
A motion to close the meeting at 7:30 p.m. was approved.
