SVMGA elected new officers for 2014 at the 1-23-14 business meeting:
President – Fontaine Talley
First Vice President – Dave Snyder
Second Vice President – Greg Wade
Secretary – Bonnie Brown
Treasurer – Gail Kingman
At-Large Member – David Hudson

Treasurer Gail Kingman has served SVMGA flawlessly for four years and did not want to commit to a fifth, yet no one would volunteer to take the job. Instead of leaving the organization without a treasurer, Gail agreed to serve another year. This is unfair to Gail. SVMGA needs volunteers, and if no one will step up, the future of the organization is in doubt. Please consider becoming the SVMGA treasurer and give Gail a much-deserved break.
A special thanks to Denise Hudson for her two years as president of SVMGA. Despite numerous responsibilities on her farm, Denise was generous with her time, offering inventive ideas and energetic leadership. She helped mold SVMGA into a mature organization as well as a “lean, mean, selling machine” for goat and sheep producers. She has been a tireless promoter and goodwill ambassador for SVMGA, presenting the organization’s values and mission to local officials, producers and the general public. Denise’s tenure has been invaluable to the success of SVMGA. We all owe here a HUGE thank you!

The Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association is having a meat goat consignment sale on Saturday, February 15, 2014. The sale starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. The sale will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558.
This sale is for good quality kids (40 lbs — 70 lbs). Kids will be sold by the pound at a premium price. The price will be announced five days prior to sale.
Commission Fees: $1 per head for SVMGA members. $5 per head for non-members. You can join SVMGA at the sale and pay the member fee. For more info about membership go to the “About” page on this website.
To include your goats in the sale, or to get more information, call Debbie Duffer at 434-470-0550 or 434-735-8759. Animals must be registered on or before February 5, 2014.
Registering your animals prior to the sale is very important. Knowing the quantity of animals before the sale allows the buyer to establish fair pricing and secure adequate transportation. Animals not pre-registered prior to the sale may be accepted, but ONLY as space and the buyer permits.
Registration prior to the sale allows SVMGA to obtain the best pricing and the buyer to have adequate transportation. In an effort to avoid this problem, SVMGA has implemented a $10 fee for anyone who is late registering for a sale. This fee is not intended to discourage anyone from selling but rather to help the organization better serve its members.
All animals must have a scrapie tag and be in good health. Yearling does, bucks, culls and sheep will be accepted but with separate pricing. SVMGA reserves the right to reject any animal.
