September Meat Goat Consignment Sale

September 6, 2013

The Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association is having a meat goat consignment sale on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The sale starts at 8:00 A.M. and ends at 11:00 A.M.  The sale will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558.

This sale is for good quality kids (40 lbs — 70 lbs).  Kids will be sold by the pound at a premium price. The price will be posted five days prior to sale on this website.

Commission Fees: $1 per head for SVMGA members. $5 per head for non-members. You can join SVMGA at the sale and pay the member fee. For more info about membership go to the “About” page on this website.

To include your goats in the sale, or to get more information, call Leah Brown, Ag Director, at 434-476-3066.  Animals must be registered on or before September 18, 2013.

Registering your animals with Leah Brown prior to the sale is very important.  Knowing the quantity of animals before the sale allows the buyer to establish fair pricing and secure adequate transportation.  Animals not pre-registered with Lean Brown prior to the sale may be accepted, but ONLY as space and the buyer permits.

Registration prior to the sale allows SVMGA to obtain the best pricing and the buyer to have adequate transportation. In an effort to avoid this problem, SVMGA has implemented a $10 fee for anyone who is late registering for a sale. This fee is not intended to discourage anyone from selling but rather to help the organization better serve its members.

All animals must have a scrapie tag and be in good health. Yearling does, bucks, culls and sheep will be accepted but with separate pricing. SVMGA reserves the right to reject any animal.

SVMGA has also scheduled a consignment sale on November 16, 2013.

Message from SVMGA President

September 4, 2013
Greetings all Members,

The year is winding down quickly and we have only  have two SVMGA meetings left for the year and one sale.  Please mark your calendar for the final two meeting dates and attend if you can.

September 26th – We need as many members present as possible to help set up the holding pen panels for the sale the following Saturday.  The meeting will primarily be a working session to get the panels back in place.  The Beef Association removed the panels for their sale, and if we want to have our sale in September as planned the panels must be put back in place.  This is a big job and we need members to come out and help. There will only be a brief business meeting to discuss the sale.

October 24th – Final Meeting of the year and our Annual Potluck.  This  meeting begins a half-hour earlier at 6:30, and all members are encouraged to bring a covered dish to share. As in the past two years, Hudson Heritage Farms will bring the meat entrée.  Paper products, utensils and drinks will be provided by SVMGA.  We hope everyone comes out to this popular meeting to visit with members and share a great meal.

SEPTEMBER Sale – This sale will be held on the 28th.  Please look for ads and additional information from the sales committee.  Also, as a reminder please call Leah and pre-register the livestock you plan to bring to the sale.
