Leah Brown, Halifax County Ag Development Director, wants the SVMGA membership to know that Virginia State University is giving away “scholarships” to goat producers who are interested in going to the 2013 National Goat Conference in Greensboro, NC this September (see SVMGA website post dated 7-28-13 for information on the conference).
VSU has 12 scholarships they would like to give away where they would pay a goat producer’s way into the event. Anyone interested should contact Mark Klingman of VSU no later than Friday August 2, to “apply.” You can e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org or call him at 804-524-5493. The 2013 National Goat Conference will be held in Greensboro, NC, September 15-18, 2013.
The National Goat Conference, first organized in 2010 and occurring every three years, provides educational opportunities in pasture and nutrition, marketing and processing, herd health, reproduction and more. The conference serves a diverse audience and is designed for goat and sheep producers, agricultural professionals and students. Meet and network with representatives of the 1890 and 1862 Land-Grant Institutions, community-based organizations as well as local, state and federal agencies.

The Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association will be holding its monthly business meeting on Thursday, July 25, 2013, 7:00 pm. at the Halifax Ag Center.
