May Consignment Sale

March 9, 2013

The Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association is having a meat goat consignment sale on Saturday, May 18, 2013. The sale starts at 8:00 A.M. and ends at 11:00 A.M.  The sale will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558.

You can view/download the sale flyer here.

This sale is for good quality kids (35 lbs — 70 lbs).  Kids will be sold by the pound at a premium price. The price will be posted five days prior to sale on this website.

Commission Fees: $1 per head for SVMGA members. $5 per head for non-members. You can join SVMGA at the sale and pay the member fee. For more info about membership go to the “About” page on this website.

To include your goats in the sale, or to get more information, call Leah Brown, Ag Director, at 434-476-3066.  Animals must be registered on or before May 10, 2013.

Registering your animals with Leah Brown prior to the sale is very important.  Knowing the quantity of animals before the sale allows the buyer to establish fair pricing and secure adequate transportation.  Animals not pre-registered with Lean Brown prior to the sale may be accepted, but ONLY as space and the buyer permits.

The February sale was a success with 98 animals sold, but was almost cancelled due to not having the required minimum 50 animals registered by the deadline. This continues to be a problem. Registration prior to the sale allows SVMGA to obtain the best pricing and the buyer to have adequate transportation. In an effort to avoid this problem, SVMGA has implemented a $10 fee for anyone who is late registering for a sale. This fee is not intended to discourage anyone from selling but rather to help the organization better serve its members.

All animals must have a scrapie tag and be in good health. Yearling does, bucks, culls and sheep will be accepted but with separate pricing. SVMGA reserves the right to reject any animal.

SVMGA has also scheduled consignment sales on August 17, and November 16, 2013.
