The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg will hold Goat Day 2012 on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Goat Day 2012 will offer some of the latest information to help you manage your herd. Whether you have dairy goats, fiber goats, meat goats or just a few pets, the topics covered can help you keep your goats happier, healthier and more productive. The Veterinary College is excited to offer a symposium that includes some of the most knowledgable speakers in the commonwealth. Multiple classes will be offered throughout the day, allowing you to select topics that are of utmost importance to you.
Don’t miss this opportunity to share in the common goal of improving goat husbandry.

There will be no SVMGA business meeting during August, so that members can attend the Virginia and North Carolina Forage and Grassland Council’s Southern Piedmont Summer Forage Tour, Thursday, August 23rd, from 2:30 to 6:30 at Triple Creek Ranch, 1143 Clarksville Road, Virgilina, VA, 24598.
Triple Creek Ranch is a family farm owned by Dr. and Mrs. Henry Poore, and managed by their son Dr. Matt Poore and their grandsons Korey Muller and Noah Bowman.
There is no cost for the tour if you pre-register by August 10th, by calling Margaret Kenny at 434-292-5331 or e-mailing her at email@example.com. If you do not pre-register, it’s $10 per person at the door.
The conference and farm tour will focus on grazing, riparian buffers, marketing local grass-fed meat, pasture pod irrigation etc. Dinner will also be served at the event.
This tour is approved for Virginia Beef Quality Assurance re-certification.

A Virgilina farmer is interested in working with a goat producer to have a herd of goats placed on his farm. Mason Steele owns approximately 50 acres of grass and timber and is interested in having a herd of goats graze the property. He is also willing to let the goat producer cut hay off his property.
