Don’t miss the kid health management lecture at the Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association monthly meeting, Thursday, February 24, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at the Halifax County Ag Center.
The speaker will be Dr. Kevin D. Pelzer, an associate professor of production management medicine and epidemiology in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences in the Virginia- Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Tuskegee Institute and his M.P.V.M. from the University of California- Davis. Prior to joining the college in 1987, he was an adjunct clinical instructor of ambulatory field services at Iowa State University. His research interests are public health and sheep and goats. Pelzer is board certified as a diplomate by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
In the classroom, Dr. Pelzer presents clinical cases in which he and the students work through. These cases involve similar concepts and techniques that are used in small animal medicine. Pelzer was named Teacher of the Year in 2001, 2002, and 2003 and received the Bayer Faculty Recognition Award in 2006 for his outstanding teaching and his compassionate and caring attitude for his students.
