Mark your calendars now and plan to bring your neighbors to an information-packed SVMGA Field Day, Saturday, May 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Halifax County Ag Development Center.
Fidelis Okpebholo, PhD, Virginia State University, will present “Opportunities and Challenges for the Meat Goat Industry.” Dr. Fidelis will have two sessions, 11 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 1 p.m., so you will have plenty of time to see demonstrations, attend other workshops, eat lunch and enjoy looking—and maybe purchasing—additional stock during the Breeders’ Stock Show and Sale.
Other activities include bluegrass music by The Rural Elixirs and a pen full of Guardian-Dog puppies. There may even be other varieties of goats to view. Admission is free, and bring as many friends as you like. The Field Day Committee has worked long and hard to make this Field Day a good one.
If you have breeding stock you would like to sell at Field Day, call Shelly Palmer, 434-376-9424, to reserve a pen. Pens are limited but free to SVMGA members. The registration form for the Breeding Stock Sale can be downloaded here from SVMGA’s website.
If you cannot reach Shelly via the above phone number, an additional number is on the form. You may also email her at email@example.com . See you May 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.!
