Meat Goat Consignment Sale This Weekend

Don’t forget: The Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association is having a meat goat consignment sale this Saturday, February 18, 2012. The sale starts at 8:30 A.M. and ends at 11 A.M. The sale will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558.

This sale is for good quality kids (35 lbs — 70 lbs). Goats will be sold by the pound at the following prices:

Kids and lambs 35 pounds and up: $1.85

Yearling goats: $1.35

High-yielding does and adult bucks: $0.90

Poor quality does or excess fat: $0.80

Adult ewes and rams : $0.75

Commission Fees: $1 per head for SVMGA members. $5 per head for non-members. You can join SVMGA at the sale and pay the member fee. For more info about membership go to the “About” page on this website.

To include your goats (or sheep) in the sale, or to get more information, call Leah Brown, Ag Director, at 434-476-3066.

All animals must have a scrapie tag and be in good health. SVMGA reserves the right to reject any animal.

February Meat Goat Consignment Sale

The Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association is having a meat goat consignment sale on February 18, 2012. The sale starts at 8:30 A.M. and ends at 11 A.M. The sale will be held at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558.

This sale is for good quality kids (35 lbs — 70 lbs). Kids will be sold by the pound at a premium price. The price will be posted five days prior to sale on this website.

To include your goats (or sheep) in the sale, or to get more information, call Leah Brown, Ag Director, at 434-476-3066.

All animals must have a scrapie tag and be in good health. Yearling does, bucks and culls will be accepted but with separate pricing. SVMGA reserves the right to reject any animal.

Farm Tour Cancelled

Due to the rainy, cold weather, the farm tour scheduled for today will be cancelled.

SVMGA Meat Goat/Sheep Sale A Success!

The sale held on October 22, 2011 was a huge success. There were 363 goats and sheep sold.

Many thanks to Leah Brown, Halifax County Ag Development Director and the SVMGA Marketing Committee and other members who worked hard at the sale and ensuring it was a success!

Consignment Sale Prices

Here are the prices for the SVMGA consignment sale on Saturday, October 22:

Kids $1.60

Yearlings $1.30

High Yielding Does $0.80

Adult Bucks $0.90

Lambs up to 80 lbs. $1.70

Just a reminder: The SVMGA October Consignment Sale is Saturday, October 22, at the Halifax County Ag Marketing Center, 1001 Farmway Lane (Route 922), Halifax, VA 24558. The sale runs from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

This sale is primarily for quality kids, 35-70 pounds. The price paid per pound will be announced five days prior to the sale. Commission fees are $1 per head for SVMGA members and $5 per head for non-members.

Hudson Heritage Farms will be featured on ABC Channel 13 on Saturday, October 8, at 6:00 p.m.

Farm owner and SVMGA vice president Denise Hudson was interviewed by Channel 13′s James Gherardi and discussed many aspects of local meat and dairy goat production, products and marketing.
